Memento

As the definition state, a memento is an object that serves as a reminder of a person(s), or event(s). This sculpture hand to be the size that can be held in one hand and can use no more than three materials. I choose to create my memento out of cork, wood and, champagne wire. My memory was of the women in my family and how we are raised on champagne. In my family, we create Mr. Champagne Man whenever we open a bottle of champagne and we place him somewhere around the house as a reminder. Theresore i created a  Ms. Champagne Lady  to commemorate all the wonderful time i spent with my mother, aunt and grandmother.

3D to 2D

This was a project that came to me a lot easier to me than some of the other projects. For this project, we had to choose a 3D artwork that we created in the semester and transform it into a 2D art piece. As a Graphic Design Major I'm attracted to geometric shapes and guild lines, it just my nature to have thing unified and structured. I choose my Map Relief Sculpture as my 3D form. I took pictures of the woven yarn and then made a clipping mask in Adobe Illustrator to form a cube form.I like the idea of this organic form turning into a non-organic form. I choose the colors because they were bold but not too distracting. I could see this artwork as a framed print or as an album cover fro The XX (band).

Map Relief Sculpture

On this assignment, we were to create a map relief based on a topographical map that reflects a personal idea. I based my idea off of a birds nest and how the collect thing from where they have been to create their home. I have called three different place home in my lifetime so far and I wanted to represent that with the three different woven yard squares. I also want to tie loose yard to show the loose end of a relationship I have left behind. For my materials, I choose yard and metal to represent myself. I feel that I can be a hard metal but soft as yard personality. I feel that this project could continue as I grow as a person a travel to new homes and build new relationships.

Three Mini Sculpture

For this project we had to create three mini sculptures uses either balsa wood, glue, white paper, masking tape, tracing paper or straight pins. I want to focus mostly on space and some learned that I was unconsciously also using repetition in my pieces as well. For my first piece, I cut balsa wood into eight right triangles with three acute triangles. I then stacked them using the straight pins to create a space and a floating effect. Later I put glue in between I levitate. However, for my second sculpture, I was still inspired by the triangle shape and repeated it to create a pyramid. After that structure was made I wrapped one-half with tape and the other half was half exposed balsa wood and half paper/tape. To continue with the reputation I punched holes in both the tape and paper to create texture and patter. The final sculpture was an experiment. I still contained a cohesion using triangles as the other two had, but this time I put in on a rectangular base. I want this piece to have a different look to it from all angles. I really enjoyed this project and learning to experiment with material i have never combined together.

Tape Shoes

For this assignment, the goal was to contract shoe using only one material...masking tape . My original pair of shoes were bought at Goodwill and were a size 7 metallic lace-up flat. I first started off by taking one shoe a cutting up all the individual pieces that made up the structure. I then created a paper mock up. To begin building the shoe with masking tape I started first with the heel and base. To manipulate and to create form and texture out of masking tape was the real challenge of this project. After both my left and right shoe bases were complete I moved on to the sides. by cutting up the original shoe I had templates to help guide me on the sides and tongue pieces. The project took roughly thirty hours to complete and boy will i never look at masking tape the same way again.

Surprise

For this performance, I wanted to represent how life is so full of unpredictable beauty and strange surprises.  Life can be messy and fun, childish and scary. However, you will never know what will happen next in, and that is what in this artwork. By creating this "Surprise" around Flagler, I Repeating the same action on different classmates thereby created Rhythm and Variety in my performance.

Turned Upside-Down

This week I have had papers to write, homework to complete, work, classes to attend, my parent visiting and moving to a new home. It seemed like my world was crashing down on me and turning it Upside down. So to represent this emotion, I used Balance throughout the four place I performed.

Layers

When choosing my cloth in the morning, I tend to go for the most comfortable choices which happen to be the many t-shirts I own. For this performance, I what to show all my favorite t-shirt but in a way that would exaggerate this task of putting on a t-shirt. Upon doing this, I showed Rhythm in my action of put t-shirt after t-shirt on to where it eventually became uncomfortable.
